Geometric drinks cabinet
As part of The crafts alive 2018 exhibition at Rodmarton Manor Gloucestershire, selected artists were invited to produce work inspired by the arts and craft movement of which the manor leads by example.
On visiting Rodmarton I felt particularly drawn to the relief carvings on a table designed by Ernest Barnsley. Light, shadow and precision were key details and my response is led by these elements while experimenting with a new material.
Attracted by corks eco credentials my experiments culminated in a reflective aesthetic similar to beaten metal, providing many shades of the applied pigment. Tapered cork segments are surrounded by a 1 mm shadow detail, while each side of the cabinet has a unique three dimensional pattern.
Designed to house a special drinks collection, the piece is light specific and displays its full potential when placed by natural light or under a light source.
